Cleaning Up The Don

One of the most dedicated groups of Don Volunteers is the Clean-Up Team. Started up by Warrern Meecham, the team goes out regularly all through the summer to literally clean-up the Don.

Automobile engines, lumber pipes, oil drums and tires - hundreds and hundreds of tires - have been pulled out of the river and the ravines by this amazing crew.

Along with Warren, the regulars include Glenn Gillespie, Peter Valier, Jeremy Edwards, Jean O'Grady, Ernie Baltz and many many more.

To join them call (416) 485-0683. There's many more miles to clean-up!

Scenes from the clean-ups

The clean-up team at Pottery Road and Broadview with a sample of the junk pulled off of the slopes of the Don Valley The team hard at work rolling a rusty culvert up the slopes

The harvest from a clean-up along the valley slope behind Broadview Ave Another rusty piece of culvert being pulled from the river with the crane

Some of the younger volunteers beside an automobile engine retrived from one of the ravines leading into the valley Some of the streams leading into the Don are at the bottom of very deep ravines. This tire had to be pulled out of the stream then rolled all the way up the hill to the road

For some reason the team pulls a lot of automobile and truck engines out of the river and from the surrounding valley slopes An office safe, minus its door
